An Adept (1st)Paṭhamaasekhasutta
Then a mendicant went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and said to him:Atha kho aññataro bhikkhu yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā ekamantaṁ nisīdi. Ekamantaṁ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:
“Sir, they speak of the one called ‘an adept’.“‘Asekho asekho’ti, bhante, vuccati. How is an adept mendicant defined?”Kittāvatā bhante, bhikkhu asekho hotī”ti?
“Mendicant, it’s when a mendicant has an adept’s right view, right purpose, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, right immersion, right knowledge, and right freedom.“Idha, bhikkhu, bhikkhu asekhāya sammādiṭṭhiyā samannāgato hoti, asekhena sammāsaṅkappena samannāgato hoti, asekhāya sammāvācāya samannāgato hoti, asekhena sammākammantena samannāgato hoti, asekhena sammāājīvena samannāgato hoti, asekhena sammāvāyāmena samannāgato hoti, asekhāya sammāsatiyā samannāgato hoti, asekhena sammāsamādhinā samannāgato hoti, asekhena sammāñāṇena samannāgato hoti, asekhāya sammāvimuttiyā samannāgato hoti. That’s how a mendicant is an adept.”Evaṁ kho, bhikkhu, bhikkhu asekho hotī”ti.
