“Mendicants, there are three duties of an ascetic.“Tīṇimāni, bhikkhave, samaṇassa samaṇiyāni samaṇakaraṇīyāni. What three?Katamāni tīṇi? Undertaking the training in the higher ethics, the higher mind, and the higher wisdom.Adhisīlasikkhāsamādānaṁ, adhicittasikkhāsamādānaṁ, adhipaññāsikkhāsamādānaṁ— These are the three duties of an ascetic.imāni kho, bhikkhave, tīṇi samaṇassa samaṇiyāni samaṇakaraṇīyāni.

So you should train like this:Tasmātiha, bhikkhave, evaṁ sikkhitabbaṁ: ‘We will have keen enthusiasm for undertaking the training in the higher ethics, the higher mind, and the higher wisdom.’‘tibbo no chando bhavissati adhisīlasikkhāsamādāne, tibbo no chando bhavissati adhicittasikkhāsamādāne, tibbo no chando bhavissati adhipaññāsikkhāsamādāne’ti. That’s how you should train.”Evañhi vo, bhikkhave, sikkhitabban”ti.
