Accomplishments (1st)Paṭhamasampadāsutta

“Mendicants, there are these eight accomplishments.“Aṭṭhimā, bhikkhave, sampadā. What eight?Katamā aṭṭha? Accomplishment in initiative, protection, good friendship, and balanced finances. And accomplishment in faith, ethics, generosity, and wisdom.Uṭṭhānasampadā, ārakkhasampadā, kalyāṇamittatā, samajīvitā, saddhāsampadā, sīlasampadā, cāgasampadā, paññāsampadā— These are the eight accomplishments.imā kho, bhikkhave, aṭṭha sampadāti.

They’re enterprising in the workplace,Uṭṭhātā kammadheyyesu, diligent in managing things,appamatto vidhānavā; they balance their finances,Samaṁ kappeti jīvikaṁ, and preserve their wealth.sambhataṁ anurakkhati.

Faithful, accomplished in ethics,Saddho sīlena sampanno, bountiful, rid of stinginess,vadaññū vītamaccharo; they always purify the pathNiccaṁ maggaṁ visodheti, to well-being in lives to come.sotthānaṁ samparāyikaṁ.

And so these eight qualitiesIccete aṭṭha dhammā ca, of a faithful householder of discernmentsaddhassa gharamesino; are declared by the one who is truly namedAkkhātā saccanāmena, to lead to happiness in both spheres,ubhayattha sukhāvahā.

welfare and benefit in this life,Diṭṭhadhammahitatthāya, and happiness in lives to come.samparāyasukhāya ca; This is how, for a householder,Evametaṁ gahaṭṭhānaṁ, merit grows by generosity.”cāgo puññaṁ pavaḍḍhatī”ti.
