AwakeJāgarasutta

At Sāvatthī.Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

Standing to one side, that deity spoke this verse in the Buddha’s presence:Ekamantaṁ ṭhitā kho sā devatā bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:

“How many sleep among the waking?“Kati jāgarataṁ suttā, How many wake among the sleeping?kati suttesu jāgarā; By how many do you gather dust?Katibhi rajamādeti, By how many are you cleansed?”katibhi parisujjhatī”ti.
“Five sleep among the waking.“Pañca jāgarataṁ suttā, Five wake among the sleeping.pañca suttesu jāgarā; By five you gather dust.Pañcabhi rajamādeti, By five you’re cleansed.”pañcabhi parisujjhatī”ti.
