At Sāvatthī.Sāvatthiyaṁ viharati.

“Mendicants, sentient beings join together and converge because of an element:“Dhātusova, bhikkhave, sattā saṁsandanti samenti. those who kill living creatures with those who kill living creatures,Pāṇātipātino pāṇātipātīhi saddhiṁ saṁsandanti samenti; those who steal …adinnādāyino adinnādāyīhi saddhiṁ saṁsandanti samenti; commit sexual misconduct …kāmesumicchācārino kāmesumicchācārīhi saddhiṁ saṁsandanti samenti; lie …musāvādino musāvādīhi saddhiṁ saṁsandanti samenti; consume intoxicants of beer, wine, and liquor …surāmerayamajjappamādaṭṭhāyino surāmerayamajjappamādaṭṭhāyīhi saddhiṁ saṁsandanti samenti.

Those who refrain from killing living creatures …Pāṇātipātā paṭiviratā pāṇātipātā paṭiviratehi saddhiṁ saṁsandanti samenti; who refrain from stealing …adinnādānā paṭiviratā adinnādānā paṭiviratehi saddhiṁ saṁsandanti samenti; who refrain from sexual misconduct …kāmesumicchācārā paṭiviratā kāmesumicchācārā paṭiviratehi saddhiṁ saṁsandanti samenti; who refrain from lying …musāvādā paṭiviratā musāvādā paṭiviratehi saddhiṁ saṁsandanti samenti; those who refrain from intoxicants of beer, wine, and liquor with those who refrain from intoxicants of beer, wine, and liquor.”surāmerayamajjappamādaṭṭhānā paṭiviratā surāmerayamajjappamādaṭṭhānā paṭiviratehi saddhiṁ saṁsandanti samentī”ti.
