At Sāvatthī.Sāvatthiyaṁ viharati.

“Possessions, honor, and popularity are grim …“Dāruṇo, bhikkhave, lābhasakkārasiloko.

Devadatta cut off his skillful root because his mind was overcome and overwhelmed by possessions, honor, and popularity.Lābhasakkārasilokena abhibhūtassa pariyādiṇṇacittassa, bhikkhave, devadattassa kusalamūlaṁ samucchedamagamā.
