Standing to one side, the godling Nandivisāla addressed the Buddha in verse:Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho nandivisālo devaputto bhagavantaṁ gāthāya ajjhabhāsi:
“Four are its wheels, and nine its doors;“Catucakkaṁ navadvāraṁ, it’s stuffed full, bound with greed,puṇṇaṁ lobhena saṁyutaṁ; and born from a bog.Paṅkajātaṁ mahāvīra, Great hero, how will I keep going?”kathaṁ yātrā bhavissatī”ti.
“Having cut the strap and harness—“Chetvā naddhiṁ varattañca, wicked desire and greed—icchālobhañca pāpakaṁ; and having plucked out craving, root and all:Samūlaṁ taṇhamabbuyha, that’s how you will keep going.”evaṁ yātrā bhavissatī”ti.
