At Sāvatthī.Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

“Mendicants, I will teach you the spiritual path and the fruits of the spiritual path.“Brahmacariyañca vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi, brahmacariyaphalāni ca. Listen …Taṁ suṇātha.

And what is the spiritual path?Katamañca, bhikkhave, brahmacariyaṁ? It is simply this noble eightfold path, that is:Ayameva ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo, seyyathidaṁ— right view, right purpose, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion.sammādiṭṭhi …pe… sammāsamādhi. This is called the spiritual path.Idaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, brahmacariyaṁ.

And what are the fruits of the spiritual path?Katamāni ca, bhikkhave, brahmacariyaphalāni? The fruits of stream-entry, once-return, non-return, and perfection.Sotāpattiphalaṁ, sakadāgāmiphalaṁ, anāgāmiphalaṁ, arahattaphalaṁ— These are called the fruits of the spiritual path.”imāni vuccanti, bhikkhave, brahmacariyaphalānī”ti.
